So we had the absolute pleasure of interviewing the lovely mommy Garcelle Beauvais. Since the Summer of 2011, Garcelle has been co-starring alongside Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar as ‘Hanna Linden’ in the TNT legal drama “Franklin & Bash.” Garcelle also recently wrapped a role across Isaiah Washington in the David E. Talbert play SUDDENLY SINGLE, which was filmed in front a live audience. She is now preparing to shoot the independent film SMALL TIME alongside Chris Meloni and Bridget Monahan, directed by Joel Surnow. In addition to her busy schedule as an actress, Garcelle’s been inspired by motherhood to write a children’s book series entitled ‘I AM,’ addressing identity issues relevant to many children today. Garcelle was also the “Fancy” star in the hit series The Jamie Fox Show. She is a strong, amazing and great individual. She recently launched her new book “I am living in two homes” from the ” I am book series“. The series helps children who come from divorced homes, and it’s done from the child’s point of view. Here at What about Mommy’s we value and appreciate all moms, so single mommies this one is especially for you:)

Take it away Garcelle:)

Q: We have been following you for quite some time and we see that you have some exciting things going on. Can you give us a little more insight on your new book?

A: My children’s book series is called the I am book Series with the first book I AM MIXED and now the latest one I am living in 2 homes. It focuses on children who goes back-and-forth
from a divorce family. It’s done from a child point of view and in a beautiful and positive way. The message of the book is love,
loving family regardless of how many homes you live in and it’s about respecting the family! And also explaining to the children that it’s not their fault which I think is really an important message.

Q: What would you say is the most challenging thing about being a single mom? Do you have any advice for the single mommies out there?

A: I think one of the most challenging things about coparenting is remembering to put the kids first. It’s not about bad mouthing the other parent and also I can only control the things that happen in my home. I can’t control what happens at their dad’s home.

Q: What do you do to step out of “mommy mode” and just relax?

A: When the boys are at their dads that’s definitely ME time. I sleep in and I try to work out, see friends.
I just try and stay productive and busy because I do miss them when they’re not with me.

Q: So we know you have some Haitian roots. We are from Trinidad! What’s your favorite Caribbean food and can you make it?

A: My all time favorite Haitian dish is Lumbi (conch) made in a sauce and they usually serve it  over rice.
I am salivating just thinking about it .
I don’t know how to cook it. But when I go to visit my family in Miami, my sister Gladys has a restaurant and she cooks up for me.

Q: What advice would you give to the mommies out there who are trying to build a business of their own?
A: I think the most important thing when you’re starting a business is that you have to have a passion for it. Because if you don’t have a passion for it, you’re not going to stay motivated and also you can’t get people to rally behind it if they can’t feel the passion that you have. So it’s staying focused also knowing that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Be patient it may take a while, but just stick with it and good luck.

It was truly refreshing to interview the lovely super mom Garcelle. We hope that if you had any questions about co-parenting, or if you needed some encouragement as a single mom that this helped in some way. Be sure to check out her book mommies!
